Clear Winner: 94 of Top 100 Blockchain Projects are on Ethereum
According to Kevin Rooke, noted cryptocurrency YouTuber, over 25,000 developers have built on the Ethereum blockchain with 94 of the top 100 projects built on the protocol.
Even those that are migrating off Ethereum, started their ICO on the blockchain. Kin, the brainchild of Kik founders, are migrating to their own Blockchain, which is hardforked of Stellar. Tron, will be launching its own blockchain as its MainNet is set to release within the month. Most of the projects who didn’t get their start on Ethereum are payment-based or primarily store of value tokens such as Ripple, Bitcoin and all the forks of Bitcoin.
Other top 50 ERC-20 based cryptocurrencies include ICON, VeChain, and OmiseGo. ICON has a market cap of $860 million, Vechain a market cap of $1.8 billion, and Omisego a cap of $1 billion.
Because of the success, several blockchain protocols have emerged with the purpose of disrupting Ethereum, much like Ethereum did to Bitcoin when it first came out a few years ago. EOS, NEO, Cardano, and Qtum are among those who use Ethereum as a template to create a blockchain that serve a specific use case the respective entities are trying to achieve.
The largest of these, EOS, recently finished their year-long $4 billion ICO raise. With their MainNet recently released, they are claiming to be a more efficient version of Ethereum that can handle more transactions per second.
